Bartender's Psychic Dice Trick

An old bartenders favorite. Ask a person to drop three dice in to a glass of water. Then ask them to hold up the glass, add up the total of the numbers on the bottom faces of the dice and then put the glass back down. You then dip your finger tips in the water, mystically rub them on your fore-head and magically tell your subject the total they have.

What's The Secret?

All you do is subtract the total of the three dice's upward faces from 21. Remember opposite sides of a die total 7 and 3 x 7 is 21.

The Three Dice Guessing Trick

This is an impressive trick requiring some simple mathematics and three dice. Choose a person and give them the three dice, and a pen and paper or calculator if their mental arithmetic isn't up to scratch. Ask them to roll the three dice so that you can't see the resulting numbers (with your back to them or with a throwing cup to cover the dice). Then ask the person to follow the simple steps listed below so that you can miraculously guess what the numbers thrown are. For example if they have thrown a 3, 6, and 2 they...

Multiply the number on the first die by 2 6
Add 5 11
Multiply by 5 55
Add the number on the second die - 6 61
Multiply by 10 610
Add the number on the third die - 2 612
Subtract 125 487

All you have to do is ask for the resulting number and subtract 125 from it. This gives you a three digit value with each digit representing a number thrown on the dice. i.e. 487 - 125 = 362 or 3 - 6 - 2. Try and make this last step seem difficult, as if you are using some magical power.

This is a pretty cool trick. It works, it requires minimal materials and no setup, and it is super easy to do. Amaze your friends by connecting two paper clips without touching either one.

Steps

Obtain two paper clips and a piece of paper. A dollar bill is about the right size, or you can use any long, narrow piece of paper.
Fold the piece of paper into thirds so it looks like a flattened "z". You should have a top layer, a middle layer, and a bottom layer.
Clip top layer and the middle layer together from the side, as shown. Put the clip towards the loose end.
Clip middle and bottom layers together with the other paper clip. Put the paper clip towards the loose end.
Pull the ends of the paper apart. If you've clipped the paper clips together correctly, they will move towards each other.
Keep pushing and pulling till it pops through
. The paper clips will join and pop off the paper.
